How does the SCASD School Board election work?

The SCASD Board of School Directors is made up of nine board members. Every two years, about half of the seats are up for election; each elected board member serves a four-year term. This year, there are eight candidates running for four School Director positions. At the May 18, 2021 primary, all registered Democrats and Republicans will have the chance to vote for up to four candidates for School Director. All candidates are cross-filed, so all eight candidates will appear on both Democratic and Republican ballots regardless of their party affiliation. The top four candidates in each primary (ranked by total votes received regardless of party affiliation) will advance to the general election on November 2, 2021. The top four candidates in the general election will be elected to the school board.

Though there will be four candidates identified as Republican nominees on the ballot... I am the only registered Republican. The other three candidates are Republican nominees through cross-filing and are registered Democrats.
